Motivated by a love of the north woods Wendy Rouse’s latest paintings celebrate nature and humans as part of nature, and they raise
questions about the results of our actions. What goes around comes around.
Still life, landscape and the figure combine in Rouse’s paintings to present a magic realism tempered with a hint of humor; magical because what you see doesn’t quite make sense yet realistic because of her faithful representation of objects.
Rouse’s detailed renderings often incorporate reflections (resembling a calm lake) and plants and creatures from the boreal forest of Northern Minnesota. An important aspect of her art is the illusion of space, volume and light employed by the old masters and artists
of the Renaissance from which she finds much inspiration.
Rouse earned a BFA from the University of Minnesota Duluth and a MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art. She has
received several artist residencies and Arrowhead Regional Arts grants.
Over the years Rouse has enjoyed teaching painting and drawing through the Duluth Community Schools, the Duluth Art Institute,
the College of St Scholastica and private lessons. Wendy Rouse is currently represented by Lizzards Fine Art in Duluth MN. Her
